The experience

Le Grand Saut
Tourist Drop-In

You're visiting Montréal. You've done the Old Port. You've eaten at the market. You've walked St-Laurent. And now someone asks: "What was the best thing you did?"

Here's your answer. One hour of flying trapeze — coached from the first step on the board to the moment you let go and fly — inside a genuine 1931 Art Deco cinema in Petite-Italie.

We have caught every kind of person who has ever stood on that board. First-timers, retirees, teenagers, cruise passengers, solo travellers with twelve hours in Montréal. None of them expected to feel what they felt. All of them told someone about it.

What happens

One hour. Three moments
you won't forget.

01

You climb the ladder

Seven metres above the mat, holding the bar, looking out at a 1931 cinema. Your instructor's voice comes from below: "Hep." You jump. Every time.

02

You fly

The first swing is instinct. By the third, you're adjusting your body. By the last, you're doing something that looks suspiciously like circus. We've seen it a thousand times. It still looks good every time.

03

You land

On the mat. In the net. Into the arms of a catcher, if you got there. And you walk back to the board and want to do it again. They all do.

The space

A 1931 Art Deco
cinema.

This is not a gym. It is not a sports centre. It is a classified historic monument — a 1931 Art Deco cinema on Rue St-Denis in Petite-Italie — with cathedral ceilings, original architectural ornament, and a flying trapeze rig where the silver screen used to be.

The building spent decades as a cinema, then a church, then sat quiet for years. Karin Arseneault found it online and recognized it immediately: the ceiling height, the proportions, the acoustics. The perfect circus school. They discovered, during renovation, that someone had hidden a carved wooden trapezist inside the walls. The building, it turns out, had been waiting.

The neighbourhood

Petite-Italie
& Little Italy

Three blocks from Jean-Talon Market — one of the great public markets of North America. Espresso bars, gelato, fresh pasta, imported charcuterie, heirloom tomatoes in August. The neighbourhood smells like garlic and coffee.

The Château sits on Rue St-Denis, the long spine of Francophone Montréal — bookshops, terrasses, restaurants, locals. Far enough from the tourist core to feel real. Close enough to everything you came for.
